A Little Bit of Scotland by the Bay

We had a great time at the  Celtic Festival on Sunday November 4 at the Daphne Civic Center. 

Thank you to all who stopped by and visited our booth!     

Our St. Andrews Dinner was held on Thursday November 8 at the Garden Center at Forest Hill 

and Ziegler. We enjoyed meeting our guests who enjoyed the feast with us!  Thank you to Red 

McWilliams for a wonderful concert after the meal!  

The Gulfport Highlands and Islands Games held on Saturday November 10 & 11 were fantastic 

as always! Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth to chat!    

And of course we had a wonderful turn-out at the Mobile International Festival. We enjoyed meeting so many new people - and many thanks to the Highland and Islands gang out of Gulfport for coming over to help us with our booth! 

Thursday, December 13, at 7:00 PM, Mithril will be in concert at the  Government St Church 

followed by a reception and Silent Auction.  A $10 Donation is requested at the door for the 

event.  Proceeds will be used to support the ministries of the church which include the housing 

of  volunteers who come to the Mobile area after disasters to build with Habitat for Humanity 

and to support other local charities.

A Tartan for Shrek  

Shrek, the loveable Scottish, green ogre now has his own tartan!  VisitScotland, Scotland’s 

national tourist organization, developed the idea along with Lochcarron kiltmakers.  The 

managing director of Lochcarron said “Clearly this was no ordinary brief. The team rose to 

the occasion and our designer chose muted browns and acid greens to reflect Shrek’s character 

and status.” Mike Myers, who bestowed a Scottish accent on the loveable ogre when he first 

came to life in 2001, was present at the unveiling.

Saturday December 3, 2007 is the 20th anniversary of the SSOM!

Thursday December 20 Holiday meeting 6:30 pm -  at the Garden Center at Forest Hill & Zielgler. Hopefully Scotty Claus will be paying us a visit!

Saturday February 9, 2008 is our 20th Annual Robert Burns Dinner - join us for a fun evening of bagpipes, toasts, traditional Scottish fare, music and maybe a few suprises!  Plans are being finalized - more info to come!
